- Distinctive feature of scientific directions of activity of institute is interdisciplinary research for the decision of problems of social development. The scientific interests of the team cover the socio-economic problems of the information society; mechanisms for managing investment and innovation processes; methodologies and methods for assessing the economic potential of the enterprise; formation of strategies for socio-economic development of territories; problems of the economy of nature management and compensation of damages related to environmental pollution, etc.
The most important and influential scientific schools of the Institute are:
"Sustainable Development and Environmental Economics" - was founded in the 1970s by Professor Oleg Balatsky. During the existence of the school, under the guidance of its representatives, 90 candidates and 15 doctors of science were trained. Currently, 9 Doctors and 51 Candidates of Science are employed at the SSU. Within the school there are research groups of Doctor of Economics, prof. Melnyk L.G. "Economics of Systems and Sustainable Information Society Development", Doctor of Economics, Prof. Sotnyk I.M., Doctor of Economics, Prof. Mishinin E.V. and Doctor of Economics, Prof. Kubatko O.V. and others.
"Management of the national economy" - founded by Doctor of Economics, prof. Melnyk L.G. in the early 2000s. During the existence of the school under the leadership of its representatives, 50 candidates and 8 doctors of science were trained. Currently, the staff consists of 21 candidates and 8 Doctors of Sciences, in particular, research in this area is conducted by Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Galinska Yu.V., Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Karintseva O.I., Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Lyulyov O.V., Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Shkarupa O.V. and others.
"Investments and Innovative Society" - scientific research within the school is headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor Vasilyeva T.A. During the existence of the school under the guidance of its representatives, 35 candidates and 8 doctors of science were trained. There are currently 7 Doctors and 35 Candidates of Science in the field of scientific research. Professor Boronos V.M.'s research team is actively working in this direction. "Financial Mechanisms of Management of Social and Economic Development", which includes Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Kobushko I.M., Doctor of Economics, prof. Basantsov I.V., Doctor of Economics, prof. Zakharkin O.O., PhD, Associate Professor Alexandrov V.T. and others.
“Marketing and Management of Innovations” - founded by Doctor of Economics, Professor Ilyashenko SM in the early 2000s. Currently, scientific research within the school is headed by Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Lyulyov OV. During the existence of the school under the guidance of its representatives, 30 candidates and 5 doctors of science were trained. At present the staff consists of 26 candidates and 5 doctors of science. They are actively working on the subject of Doctor of Economics, prof. Teletov O.S., Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Pymonenko T.V., Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Shvindina H. and others.
